Put safety first
For Northstar office and frontline employees at all locations.
Fictional sample: Northstar and the examples on this page are illustrative. Local procedures and available app features may differ by location.
If you believe someone may be in immediate danger, move to a safer place if you can, follow your location's emergency procedure, and contact local emergency services. Do not confront or approach anyone if it feels unsafe.
For non-immediate concerns, use Safety Hub to find Northstar's configured safety reporting and response options. If you are working alone, use Lone Worker for the check-in or assistance features Northstar has configured. Neither app should be assumed to replace emergency services or guarantee an immediate response.
This page is general guidance, not a substitute for your site's emergency instructions or Northstar's authoritative policies.
Notice behavior that concerns you
A behavior may be a reason to seek help; no single sign proves intent.
Escalating anger or intimidation
A person becomes increasingly agitated, uses intimidating language, or repeatedly directs hostile behavior at someone.
- Focus on what you observed and when it happened.
- Report the concern through the configured Safety Hub process.
Threats or repeated unwanted contact
A person makes a threat, continues unwanted contact after being asked to stop, or repeatedly follows or targets a colleague.
- Do not investigate, confront, or try to determine intent.
- If danger seems immediate, leave the area and follow local emergency procedures.
Fixation on a person or grievance
A person repeatedly focuses on a particular colleague or grievance in a way that feels increasingly threatening or disruptive.
- Share specific words or actions you observed, not assumptions or diagnoses.
- Use Safety Hub to find the reporting route Northstar has configured.
If it is safe to speak
These are optional actions for a situation that does not require immediate escape or emergency response. Disengage as soon as risk increases.
-
1
Keep space and an exit
Stay at a respectful distance and keep a clear route to leave. Do not block the other person's exit.
-
2
Use a calm, brief voice
Speak evenly and use simple, respectful language. Listen without arguing or challenging the person.
-
3
Avoid sudden contact
Keep your movements visible and avoid touching the person or making sudden movements.
-
4
Leave and get help if risk rises
End the conversation and move to safety if the person becomes more threatening, you feel unsafe, or you cannot keep an exit clear. Do not intervene when it is unsafe.
Choose the right help route
Use the app that fits the situation; check the options configured for your location.
Safety Hub
Use Safety Hub to find Northstar's configured safety reporting and response options for a concern or incident.
- Follow the reporting instructions shown in the app.
- Do not assume a submission is monitored in real time unless the app says so.
Lone Worker
When working alone, use Lone Worker for the check-in or assistance features Northstar has configured for your role and location.
- Check the app's instructions before relying on a feature.
- For immediate danger, follow local emergency procedures and contact local emergency services.
After an incident or concerning event
- Move to a safer place and follow the emergency instructions for your location.
- When safe, use Safety Hub to follow Northstar's configured reporting process. Describe observable facts, such as what was said or done, where it happened, and when; avoid speculation about intent.
- Follow the instructions provided through the reporting process and any applicable local procedures. If you need location-specific guidance, use the manager or designated safety-contact route verified and published by your location.
Setup note for site owners: Before publishing, configure Safety Hub reporting and response options, verify Lone Worker features and their intended use, and connect the authoritative policies in Policy Hub. Add only confirmed local emergency instructions and support routes. Do not imply that reports receive real-time monitoring or that an app guarantees a response.
