What's inside this template

Steps

  • Shut off unit at thermostat or disconnect

Turn off the air handler at the thermostat first; then lock out at the disconnect switch if performing electrical-adjacent work.

  • Remove old filter

Open access panel. Slide filter out, supporting bottom edge to avoid loose debris falling. Note size printed on filter frame.

  • Verify replacement size and MERV

New filter dimensions must match exactly (within 1/4”). MERV rating per facility spec — typical office is MERV 8-11; healthcare is MERV 13+.

  • Install with airflow arrow

Filter has airflow direction arrow on frame — must point toward the blower (away from return). Backwards installation collapses the filter.

  • Tag with installation date

Write installation date on filter frame with marker. Update PM log with date, location, filter size/MERV, and tech name.

  • Restart and verify

Close access panel. Restore power if locked out. Restart unit at thermostat. Verify normal airflow at supply registers.
