Steps

  • Identify Required PPE

Review the job hazard analysis for your task. Identify all required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator, etc.

  • Inspect PPE Before Use

Check each piece of PPE for damage, wear, or defects. Do not use damaged PPE — report it and obtain a replacement.

  • Don PPE Properly

Put on all required PPE in the correct order. Ensure proper fit — adjust straps, sizing, and seals as needed.

  • Perform Work

Keep PPE on at all times while in the designated area. If PPE becomes damaged during work, stop and replace immediately.

  • Remove and Clean PPE

Remove PPE in the correct order to avoid contamination. Clean reusable PPE according to manufacturer instructions.

  • Store or Dispose

Store reusable PPE in a clean, dry location. Dispose of single-use PPE in the appropriate waste container.
