Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act Addendum

What's inside this template

Coverage & Accrual

  • Most IL employers must provide up to 40 hours of paid leave per 12-month period. Accrual: 1 hour per 40 hours worked, OR front-load 40 hours at start of period. (Cook County and Chicago employees use the more generous local ordinance.)

Use

  • Employees may use leave for ANY reason — they are NOT required to provide a reason or documentation. Notice: 7 days for foreseeable use; reasonable notice for unforeseeable use.

Carryover & Payout

  • Unused balance carries over (no cap on carryover unless front-load method is used; front-load resets each period). Not paid out at separation unless the employer’s policy includes it in a vacation/PTO bank.

Anti-Retaliation

  • Employers may not retaliate against employees for using or requesting paid leave. Penalties include back pay, statutory damages, and IDOL enforcement.
