What's inside this template

Eligibility & Accrual

  • All CA employees who work 30+ days in a year accrue paid sick leave. Two accrual options: (a) 1 hour per 30 hours worked, capped at 80 hours; or (b) front-load 40 hours (5 days) at start of each year.

Use

  • Employees may use up to 40 hours / 5 days per year (whichever is greater). Sick leave applies to: own diagnosis / care / treatment, family member care, or a victim of domestic violence / sexual assault / stalking.

Carryover

  • Up to 80 hours / 10 days carries over. Annual usage cap remains 40 hours / 5 days.

Anti-Retaliation

  • Employers may not deny use, count it as an absence under disciplinary policy, or retaliate against employees who request or use accrued sick leave.
